It's Gary Friday....

Thought it was about time that Gary had a featured roll on the blog... I mean it is supposed to be about him! We can return to London later....

Beautiful in Central Florida today... blue skies and t-shirt warm.. (weekend will be bikini warm..I can't wait!)
Anyway a walk down to the lake was in order... and Gary wanted to show off his new $57 haircut to you...

Notice at this point Gary is on his lead....(leash)... well we have been practicing walking without being on the lead and he's been doing really well... but normally goes a bit crazy when you first take him off!

So off we go.. across the land at the back of house towards the lake...

 Smelling everything... taking in the sun

 And then Gary finds whats left of an Armadillo... not much as it happens....

And worse .. he starts smelling something that looks suspiciously like pooh....

 GARY NO....!!!!!

I turn around and Gary is rolling in aforementioned POOH... guess it wasn't dog then!

SOOOO glad I spent the $ to have you washed yesterday you dirty dog. (you're not Naughty George you know!). Don't think this is getting you out of a walk either...Just stay well back from me!!!

Mind you own business!! and pick up your Poo!

No pictures or else I may be sued for slander.. Gary and I were taking our constitutional yesterday afternoon and as he does, he has to stop and do his business. I stand, pooh bag at the ready, waiting to pounce when suddenly I hear a window opening and a blind being drawn. A middle-aged black woman sticks her head out and cackles at me 'pick that up!’ I turned around livid because I quite obviously have a bright green bag on my hand ready to pick up at a moments notice. 'I always pick up...what do you think this is?' shaking my bagged hand at her! 'It's the rules you know' she continues....(if you are a regular reader you'll know I already have a problem with people who don’t pick up) I turned again to face her and told her in no uncertain terms to mind her own business.
I then picked up the poo...and carried on back to the apartment...It was as I was walking back that a thought occurred to me...what if she was a crazy with a gun...being English I don't really think about these things, but hubby says I should always think hard about who I'm prepared to piss off....oh well I'm still here now, but maybe I'll avoid walking by her apartment for a while!

A Rant...Pick up your dog poo!

Ok..so you know by now that during the week we live an apartment complex in Jacksonville, FL. It's well maintained, if a little old and the maintenance guys clear rubbish up every morning, so at first glance you'd say it looked pretty clean for a big developement. A closer look however reveals tons and tons of dog poo that people don't pick up.

Gary has a Bag on Board attached to his lead, with bio degradable bags, however I've only seen one other owner picking up after their pet here, and there are lots of dogs.

It's disgusting, especially during the hot humid days where it really starts to smell in certain areas - the stinkiest area near us ( about 500 ft away) has a sign that says to pick up dog poo...Ha! Huge big dollops everywhere...we don't walk there anymore..

I wondered what I could do to encourage people to pick up..I'd love to post something in everyone's mailbox that tells them that pet waste left on the ground, especially near streets and sidewalks, gets washed into storm drains and drainage ditches which flow to the local waterway. This water does not get cleaned or treated along the way, so anything that goes into the storm drain or ditch goes into the water. Bacteria, parasites, and viruses found in pet waste can be harmful to water quality and human health.

These offending dog owner's dogs (including Gary) are probably walking in the old poo and picking up bacteria, and if the owners cannot be bothered to pick up, then it's likely that they have not had their dogs wormed etc...my dog is picking up your dog's bacteria...thanks for that.

I love this North Carolina postcard which people are sent and encouraged to post in places of interest (vet clinics, animal shelters, and other sites) ...I'd like to post on some people's heads around here!

It seems in some places (Boulder) you can get people to pick up, then they leave the bags! You've done the hard part people, throw it in the trash...



I'm going to approach the management to ask them to include something in next months flyer and ask them to consider putting up some more dog poo bag stands (say that quickly when you've had a few !!) I only know of one and this site is enormous.
