How do you fancy the Commonwealth games?

My brother is a past competitor of the Commonwealth games, winning Gold and Bronze medals at two events, (scarily he has a small Wiki page ...Simon, its my claim to fame!!). Anyway we were discussing the sad state of affairs at the upcoming commonwealth games in India.

For my American readers, The Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event which is held every four years and features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth of Nations, normally referred to as the Commonwealth and previously known as the British Commonwealth, is an intergovernmental organisation of fifty-four independent member states. All but two of these countries were formerly part of the British Empire

It seems, with only 2 weeks to go that many of the venues and accommodation for the athletes are not ready. In fact not only are they not ready but they look hazardous to say the least.

These pictures have come to light after last weeks bridge collapse into the stadium, injuring 23 workers

My brother says, coupled with the fact that the security looks very dodgy, he's glad he is retired... It's not looking good for India, especially after Beijing managed to pull off an amazing Olympics without any hitches other than the smog.... glad I'm not going....

We're loving Pomplamoose...

Pomplamoose is an American indie music and indie jazz duo consisting of multi-instrumentalists Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn. I found them by accident on You Tube...and now am a little addicted!

Enjoy!

Anne...it's not all good in Florida....

After speaking to one of my best friends Anne, from Anne Dickens, The day after yesterday, earlier and listening to her moan on about the weather, lack of summer, howling wind etc... I now see she has decided to move to Florida (see blog) so she can consume multiple hamburgers without re-proach.... but its not all roses here Anne...

1. The Weather

I was depressed to see that come the end of the week the temperature will have dipped 3 degrees F.. I might have to break out my emergency snuggie.

However searing heat in September isn't for anyone, and if you know Anne she is a typical English Rose... burns like crazy in the sun, and can easily look like this..

2. Gators

As Anne has decided to swap Naughty George for a lap dog (and I'd lay money on NG and a Gator in a fight) she can expect something like this if she decides to walk near a lake with said lap dog...

they can get a little crazy, sometimes inviting themselves in for a cocktail...

3. Hover Riding

She really wants to join the ranks of the hover riders at Disney... I think Disney is a Mecca for the hover riders....

4. Food

Hmm.. some would say the food is great here. I find it monotonous and samey. I crave a good Curry when I go home to England... Anne, you'll soon get sick of your diner food you love so much, trust me!

Anne's idea of heaven
I am loving you in that Moo Moo though....red is definitely your colour!

What the hell is 'chicken salt'

Ok... some of you may know I'm 'Down Under' at present.. I've been here three weeks now and I'm ready to come home.. I'm bored of hotels, living out of a suitcase and crap food... I can't wait to get home to my husband and dog!

So with two days to go I'm running out of ideas for dinner... driving home from work today I went past a fish & chip shop, thought that will do and pulled over for some Hoki and chips and pickled onions....

As I'm paying the little chinese man asked me if I'd like 'chicken salt'.... errrrm...what?

What is chicken salt?

According to the blurb on the back of the pot, Australians first started using chicken salt to season BBQ and roast chickens in the seventies. Some innovative soul sprinkled some on his chips and the rest, as they say, is history. To quote the good folk at Mitani, the producers of one type of  CS, ‘the use of Chicken Salt on chips has become so popular it is an Australian institution.’

Hmmmm... but I'm having fish & chips?.. no thanks I'll just have salt and vinegar please... leave chicken flavoured salt to the Aussies...

I need to get home.....
